John Field: Bramford & Blakenham

John Head 2015John has lived in Baylham with wife Kay for 20 years they have two adult children and a grandson in secondary school in Colchester.
John has worked in project and team management in the telecommunications industry for many years in Thorn EMI and BT at Martlesham.  He is a member of the Institution of  Engineering Technology.

In June 2001 John was elected County Councillor to represent Gipping Valley: Akenham, Barham, Gt. & Lt. Blakenham, Bramford, Claydon, Flowton, Hemingstone, Henley  and Whitton Rural. He was elected Mid Suffolk District Councillor for Bramford and Blakenham Ward In November 2005.

At County he is Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group,  Vice Chair of Scrutiny and a member of the Pension Committee that sets policy for the fund that provided pensions for most public organisations in Suffolk.

At Mid Suffolk John serves on the Executive, the council’s decision making committee where he represents your views on issues such as planning policy, housing, rents, waste collection and at budget time on council tax.   He also serves on the Planning committee and a development control committee.  These are  termed “quasi judicial making decisions guided by planning law, the government planning guidance framework and Mid Suffolk Policy.

John is a local man who understands the issues and has worked well with Parish Councils and other local organisations. He champions new road safety measures including the vehicle activated electronic speed signs in the area. John has helped local groups to make extensive improvements to children’s playgrounds and other recreational facilities. He is a Governor at Claydon Primary School and Henley Primary School.  He has worked with other governors to help management and staff at both to raise their game to “Good” and “Outstanding” respectively the level our children deserve
