-
We will introduce measures that reduce our impact on climate change and
enhance the environment. Liberal Democrats will work closely with residents,
local businesses and through the planning system.
-
We will introduce a zero
waste strategy. Liberal Democrats set up the twin
bin collection scheme and will now seek to minimise waste through recycling of
trade waste, weekly compostable collections and by putting a greater emphasis
on re-use schemes.
-
We will pioneer new policies to tackle the causes of
anti-social behaviour
and its results. Liberal Democrats will deal quickly with the issues and will
work closely with the Police and local communities to reduce both the fear of
crime and crime itself.
-
We will deliver a quality and responsive
planning service.
Liberal Democrats will ensure that the Council makes consistent, sound and
fair decisions. We will increase consultation with our residents and will
ensure effective planning enforcement is carried out when required.
-
We will provide appropriate,
affordable housing. Liberal Democrats will
increase resources and introduce new and innovative schemes to provide
affordable homes where and when they are most needed.
-
We will improve the health and
well-being of our residents. Liberal
Democrats will work closely with all of the people in our community and will
create ‘champions’ to represent the older, younger, vulnerable and excluded
groups.
-
We will support and promote the
regeneration of Stowmarket and other key
centres in the District. Liberal Democrats will work to develop a stronger
local economy that improves the availability of good quality jobs for our
residents.
-
We will develop stronger
local communities and partnerships. Liberal
Democrats will work to create more quality parish and town Councils which are
better informed and more able to accept devolved powers and responsibilities.
-
We will deliver
improved services in the most cost-effective way possible.
Liberal Democrats will identify the needs of our residents through more
meaningful consultation and better communication.
-
We will continue to campaign to axe the
Council Tax. Local Income Tax is
fairer, would save the average household as much as £450 a year and would save
£600 million a year across the country through simpler administration.
