John and wife Kay have two adult children and a grandson in primary school. John has worked in project and team management in the
telecommunications industry for many years in Thorn EMI and BT.
He is a member of the Institution of Engineering Technology. In June 2001 John was elected County Councillor to represent Gipping Valley: Akenham,
Barham, Gt. & Lt. Blakenham, Bramford, Claydon, Flowton, Hemingstone
and Whitton Rural. He was elected Mid Suffolk District Councillor for
Bramford and Blakenham Ward In November 2005 |
John Field serves our area well both as a County
Councillor and District Councillor. He is a local man who understands
the issues and has worked well with Parish Councils and other local
organisations.
John has championed new road safety measures in the area
and helped local groups to make extensive improvements to children's
playgrounds and other recreational facilities. John is
Chair of Governors at Claydon Primary School |

Lib Dems say no to Care Changes
John has opposed the Tory led Suffolk County Council’s proposal
to move from Council provided Day-Care, Respite Care and Care Homes to
care from the Private and Independent sectors. The Council's services
are highly regarded by the people who use them and we must not allow
vulnerable people to experience anything service less good than that
they now receive. Lib Dems believe that the cost comparisons made
between council and private services are not fair and that too little
has been done to help staff and managers increase efficiency. |
Crime in Our Area
Mid Suffolk is a safe place to live, but petty vandalism is a
continuing issue in Bramford and in Blakenham. There have been many
annoying incidents and bus shelter glass has been broken more times than
we can count.
Community Policemen are often on other duties but Safer Neighbourhood
Teams are due to start in April. More officers will be available to
share the work. "I am excited about working with the new team and the
community as we have with our community police officer and Anti Social
Behaviour team in Claydon" says John Field. "Local knowledge from
village people can produce a real difference."
Our team will cover Ringshall, Barking & Somersham, Bramford &
Blakenham, Claydon & Barham and Needham Market, a big area.

Meals on Wheels
The closure of the respite centre and day care facilities at
Cherryfields has reduced support for elderly people. This Tory cost
cutting has also left the meals on wheels service having to ship food in
from Stowmarket.
Meals for Bramford, surrounding villages and Cherryfields residents,
used to come from the Cherryfields kitchen. They now come from
Stowmarket.
Thanks to the dedicated
people who run the service, needs are still being met |
The Scott's Site We understand that the developer
has reached an agreement with the environmental agency on remediation
for contaminated land and that progress now will be more noticeable.
An overview presented to the parish showed restoration to multiple
use of the listed Victorian bow roofed wooden warehouses financed by
housing on the Paper Mill Lane side of the railway. The kink in
paper Mill lane should be reduced, a good move but we must ensure it
does not result in unreasonable speeds or traffic volume. It is good
to see a proposal that respects this historic site and is capable of
delivering in tune with local views. We must encourage a close
dialogue with surrounding communities. |
SnOasis
Our view is that the SnOasis proposal would have a neutral effect on most
people in Suffolk but a substantial negative effect of the people in the
villages that surround the site
with little or no compensating benefit.
It is the perception of a substantial majority of local villagers that
they will suffer so that others may possibly gain. They have no wish
to enjoy the benefits of a more crowded and frenetic lifestyle but enjoy
Suffolk as it is.
Local Liberal Democrat Councillors wrote to GO East requesting a call in
and we are now waiting the result of the enquiry that followed.
